Sometimes the best way to make good use of your windows is by making them the centerpiece of their respective rooms. This isn’t as easy at it sounds, but it can be made easier by keeping a couple of key things in mind when you get your windows installed.
And it doesn’t stop there; you can use the surrounding furniture and even accessorize your window to further draw attention to them. This means that windows that would have otherwise remained featureless not hopeless. Here are a few of the ways you can make them stand out.
Start with the Installation
If you’re getting new windows installed, then this is the best time to start converting them into the star of the room. That’s because you literally have a blank canvas to work with. It will be easier to go with a window style that naturally calls attention to itself at this point. Consult with your contractor to see which replacement windows will stand out the most in your room.
For example; you can rework the space for the window to install bigger picture windows that will give you a nicer, more picturesque view from within the room. Or if you need a set of windows to ventilate a big room, large bay or bow windows will not only add the ventilation you need, but also act as an architectural conversation piece for when you’re entertaining guests.
But what if you already have windows that you’re happy with, and you just want to call attention to them without getting replacement windows? Then it all boils down to removing any obstruction that may pull attention away from the window.
For example: a chandelier might not be a great idea since it naturally draws the attention of anybody entering the room. Unless your windows are high floor to ceiling types, or if you’ve a high ceiling, anything flashy attached overhead will draw attention away from the windows.
And as with wearing jewellery, accessorizing is a good way of calling attention to your windows. Flank the windows with bookcases or shelving to form a frame of sorts; this works especially well with picture windows. Or use tasteful draperies that accentuate the shape of the windows. This will turn an otherwise plain-looking window into a conversation starter.
